Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
(1) notes that each year on 23 March the World Meteorological Organisation, its 189 members and the worldwide meteorological community celebrate World Meteorological Day around the theme "Climate for you";
(2) further notes that in 1951 the World Meteorological Organisation was designated a specialised agency of the United Nations System;
(3) believes that climate change remains an important global issue, strongly linked to global warming, thus World Meteorological Day this year will help us focus on understanding the weather patterns;
(4) further believes that this day aims to acknowledge the work of scientists all over the world to provide accurate weather forecasting and climate information and raise awareness about the dangers of severe weather such as lightning, floods and others; and
(5) calls on South Africans to join in commemorating this day, which will help us understand the uncertainties and management of risks of weather patterns, as we also recently experienced increased lightning activity which led to loss of lives.
Agreed to.
