Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
(1) notes that tomorrow, 25 March, marks the United Nations, International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade;
(2) further notes that this day originated as a UN General Assembly resolution in 2007 to mobilise educational institutions, civil society and other organisations to instil in the minds of future generations the causes, consequences and lessons of the transatlantic slave trade;
(3) acknowledges the 2011 commemoration theme of: "The Transatlantic slave trade: The living legacy of 30 million untold stories";
(4) further acknowledges the past contributions to our cultural and historical heritage of all individuals forced into slavery;
(5) recognises the impact of slavery on the African continent and its people; and
(6) condemns all forms of slavery as a crime against humanity and upholds our Constitutional values of freedom, equality and dignity.
Agreed to.
