[Mr S E KHOLWANE: Deputy Speaker, Ministers and their Deputies, hon members of the National Assembly, colleagues, friends and everybody, nine nonkhe bekunene, wena weluhlanga, wena lowacedza Lubombo ngekuhlehletela [Praises]. Hon members, mine is to pave the way for things which my colleague will continue to speak about. I want to say that in the past few months the whole nation was up and down - very busy, preparing to vote. Certainly we ended up voting.
My colleagues have alluded to the outcome as it is quite clear that the African National Congress has outstandingly won the elections. [Applause.] That happened when all the political parties present in this country had sufficient time to present their manifesto to the nation on things they would do if they won the election. Even though they had mentioned what they were going to do, the youth of our country has demonstrated that they truly love the African National Congress.
Let me just say that what was also more exciting was that if you look at the number of the youth that went out to vote, it shows that they listened to the African National Congress when it said they had to go out in numbers and vote for the ANC. We have to commend our youth for going to vote as they did.
It is important that we thank the African National Congress for continually demonstrating that our youth is not just a tool to be used for voting only. When we look in the National Assembly, you will see that on the side of the African National Congress there is a large representation of the youth. That shows that here in the African National Congress the youth is taken seriously, and not only as a voting tool and thereafter elderly people become members in the National Assembly. Let me also say that the father of the Nation, the honourable President - maybe we can say our first president, Father Nelson Mandela, who is respected globally- started his leadership in the youth of the African National Congress. He continued leading until he became the President of this country. What I am trying to say is that those who came before us were right when they said that a leader is amongst the youth.
Honestly, today's discussion reminds me of the time when we were campaigning, going door to door and talking to the youth... [Interjections.]]
