The exodus from the SA National Defence Force of most of our comrades had very little to do with discipline, but with the inability of the system to prepare for the effective integration of a group of people with the kind of war baggage that MK soldiers brought with them.
The intolerance of our commanders in the SANDF meant that they were not appreciative of the mental or post-war trauma of the people they were leading. This increased the problems of families with these unemployed returnees who suddenly put more economic pressure on the families that were themselves struggling to make ends meet.
