The focus on crime prevention for the past ten years has seen the Department increasing in size and strength, as the number of police officials began to grow from 119 000 in the late 1990s to 185 275 by November 2009. The increase has particularly been in Programme: Visible Policing, which hosts police stations and most crime prevention activities such as patrols, beats, and stop-and-searches.
