The Competition Tribunal levied fines totalling R788 million over this past year, a 61% increase over the previous year. In the year ahead, a big focus of the competition authorities will be on the construction industry. The commission identified 70 cases of possible price-fixing or collusion, many involving public infrastructure projects. Some R29 billion worth of contracts are under scrutiny.
