The statistics we got in 2001 were very faulty in respect of immigrants in this country. The answer that is often given is that we will need to make them understand that by disclosing their existence and whereabouts to Stats SA, they are not going to compromise themselves, especially if their papers are not in order and they are otherwise illegal.
