. The Province has a housing demand database support programme. The aim is to support non-metro municipalities to strengthen housing demand data collection and management systems and practices. The database will be on a needs-based register, indicating an applicant's profile. . The Province will identify vulnerable informal and backyard settlements. Disaster, fire and floods would be the determiners of a risk management strategy. The Province has developed an informal settlement master plan, with clear plans for each identified informal settlement. . A database showing informal settlements, temporary settlements or relocation areas database will be collated. The Province would be able to accelerate in-site upgrading and develop recommendations to progressively provide all informal settlements with improved infrastructure and tenure. . The Department completed two sizeable projects under the rectification programme. Within the City of Cape Town, a total of 2 200 units were completed, while in George, approximately 400 units were phased within municipal housing allocations. . In the Western Cape, alternative technologies were used in the construction of the N2 Gateway project. The Danish Government donated R10 million for installation of solar water heaters, while thermally efficient material was utilised in some of the houses. ABSA bank administers a Show Village Competition which serves as an opportunity for showcasing various housing concepts. These were on display for evaluation by communities in Paarl. . With respect to performance on delivery targets, during the third quarter of 2009/10, the department managed to acquire and serviced 11 071 sites, and constructed 12 163 houses.
