2. Key issues emanating from the engagement with tourism industry stakeholders I. Insufficient communication from national and provincial government with district and local municipalities with regard to tourism development. II. Lack of integrated approach to development. III. There was underdevelopment and little marketing of the existing attraction sites. IV. Poor infrastructure, infrastructure development and signage impacted on access to tourism products based in rural areas. V. Lack of coordinated effort and flow of information and stakeholders believe that there is a potential in the province but there is no flow of information. VI. Lack of clear roles and responsibilities of the different spheres of government in the development of tourism. VII. Cost of air tickets to the province are very expensive and there is a lack competition. VIII. High cost of attending Tourism Indaba these days than before. For example, a 3 x 3 metres stall use to cost R3 000. In 2012 the cost of the same space was R27 000. IX. Application for operating permit takes too long to be finalised. X. Tour Guides complain that it cost R800 to renew the certificate in every second year. XI. Zoning - the Province need to rediscover the 9 nodes. XII. The grading system by Tourism Grading Council is expensive and did not offer any marketing benefits. XIII. Tourism Levy: the stakeholders indicated willingness to pay the levy, but also wanted to receive benefit from the fee payment.
