The Executive Mayor gave an overview of the Wild Coast: 1. Poverty and unemployment rates have deteriorated over the period 1994 to 2011. 2. There has been no significant increase in agricultural activity. 3. The Wild Coast is still among the least serviced regions of the country in relation to safe water, sanitation, roads, telecommunication and educational infrastructure. 4. There has been significant increase in tourism establishments, including community-owned initiatives. 5. Several land claims have been settled but there are still outstanding issues needing attention. 6. Commercial community forestry has started and it has a huge potential. 7. Decrease in prevalence of crime.
