[The DEPUTY MINISTER OF SOCIAL DEVELOPMENT: Thank you, Speaker, allow me this opportunity to agree with the hon member that violence against women is something we should take seriously, speak against and, together devise ways and means to fight. It is like a disease. I hope that we can achieve that by finding the underlying causes of the problem. We should especially do some research on domestic situations, especially in informal settlements. Perpetrators of violence against women must be severely punished. We can only win this fight if we work together and not merely debate it to further our political agendas in this House. Let us unite to fight this mental disease, because that is what this essentially is. I also call upon women to stand up and fight for themselves to eliminate this problem. Thank you.]
