Mr Speaker, I will be making my statement in Afrikaans; some members might like to use their earphones.
(Translation of Afrikaans paragraphs follows.)
[There are those among us who think that every Muslim is carrying a bomb, and who then call them terrorists. Others, however, have the deepest respect for Muslims because of the self-discipline with which they give expression to their religion. There are those among us who regard the farmers of De Doorns as exploiters of their workers. Others, however, know that most of the moere ... boere ... [Laughter.] ... are paying their workers with respect, and have long since been paying them more than the minimum wage. There are those among us who believe that being gay is contrary to African traditions. Others, however, admire gays because they will spring to their feet for the freedom of all.
This is our moral choice: either to spread negative prejudice like a virus about other groups in public - like a certain ANC Minister did on Australian television last week - or rather to show respect to all diverse communities. The only route for South Africa is that of respect for all. This is the way of the DA.]
