Speaker, the UDM welcomes government's decision to reopen the land claim process that compensates black families who were removed from their land under white rule in order to offer redress to those who failed to meet earlier deadlines. In particular, we have been concerned about the failure of the initial process to accommodate the claims of the descendants of the Khoi and the San who were dispossessed of their land before the Natives Land Act, Act 27 of 1913, was enacted. It is therefore pleasing to see that the decision to extend the deadline took this matter into consideration.
Finally, we have been calling for this opening of a window period for the lodgement of claims precisely because we believe that too many people were left out of the initial claim process. Thank you, hon Speaker.
