This freedom is entrenched in our Constitution, which maintains, among other things, each citizen's right to information - in effect, to be reliably informed. It is therefore important for the GCIS to ensure that it plays its role in building an informed citizenry and providing citizens with information on priorities, programmes and activities. This is a vital government function which underpins state-society relationship.
