5.6 SOUTH AFRICAN MARITIME SAFETY AUTHORITY (SAMSA) The South African Maritime Safety Authority was established by the South African Maritime Safety Authority Act (No. 5 of 1998). It is mandated to promote South Africa's maritime interests, ensure the safety of life and property at sea, and prevent and combat the pollution of the marine environment by ships.
