Speaker, the ANC welcomes the opening of the newly built Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court in KwaZulu-Natal on Tuesday, 28 May 2013. Since the 1970s, the community members of Inanda, Ntuzuma and KwaMashu and three Amakhosi areas, namely AmaQadi, Amaphephethe and Amatata, had to travel a long way to the Verulam Magistrate's Court to hear their cases.
The court is one of the department's new-generation courts, fitted with state-of-the-art technology incorporating electronic communications, networking and data systems. The equipment includes the digital court system for recording of proceedings in active courtrooms and an audio visual remand system which links to correctional services for facilitation and postponement.
This forms part of the department's commitment to infrastructure development intended for previously underserviced communities and an endeavour to bring justice services closer to the people. The Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court is the 43rd court to be built since 1994, and fulfils the ANC's vision of ensuring that services are delivered to uplift the lives of the people. We applaud the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development for making justice accessible to all. I thank you. [Applause.]
