Hon Speaker, I would like to agree with the member of the ANC who has drawn attention to the conference on Urban Development. Various United Nations reports indicate that many countries are ignoring the need to address urban development, despite the massive rural urban shift that is occurring in many societies worldwide. Along with the hon member, we would like to welcome the work being done by the Minister for Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs on producing an urban development strategy and encouraging all departments relevant to this area of work to work together.
Secondly, we can confirm as government that the IFP should not be concerned that we are ignoring the events that have occurred in Bekkersdal. Various national Ministers are attending to the situation in that area. In fact, we believe we will achieve peace and we will have improved development within that community.
Finally, we certainly are thrilled that more women candidates have been identified and we'd like to agree with the hon member of the ANC that much more should be done to ensure that women legal professionals do enjoy the opportunity for taking up work in a range of sectors so that they build their expertise to allow us to increase the number of candidates that can serve within the judiciary. We congratulate all the women judges who have recently been nominated for appointment. Thank you. [Applause.]
