An elaboration on the details of the economic embargo on Cuba was sought. Clarity was also sought on "third markets" from which commodities were sourced and sent to Cuba. The concern was whether these markets came about because of commodities which could not be sourced within Cuba. Cuba was one of the first countries which established an embassy in South Africa, and so the relationship was a treasured one. It was not simply a political one; the two economies complemented each other.
