323. Ms D Kohler-Barnard (DA) to ask the Minister of Police:
Whether it was compulsory for all members of the SA Police Service (SAPS)
to attend the events of the 2011 National Police Day; if not, (a) what
selection process was used to determine which SAPS members would attend and
(b) for each province, how many SAPS members (i)(aa) were invited to attend
and (bb) actually attended the provincial events, (ii) handed in sick-leave
certificates showing that they were unable to attend the events and (iii)
did not report for duty the following Monday morning?

REPLY:
This is National day which is observed every year. The operational
requirements relating to attendance of such an event is entirely on the
shoulders of police management.
