266. Ms D Kohler-Barnard (DA) to ask the Minister of Police:
How many (a) arrests were made, (b) crimes were reported in each crime
category and (c) visible policing operations were conducted (i) in the 2011-
12 financial year and (ii) since 1 April 2012 Operation Duty Calls National
Festive Season Crime-Fighting campaigns?

REPLY:
(a)(i) A total of 1 613 254 arrests were made during 2011/12 financial
year and the full breakdown of these arrests can be found on page 66
of the SAPS annual report that was tabled in Parliament.
(b)(i) The crime statistics for 2011/2012 were published in the Annual
Report of the SAPS for the 2011/2012 financial year and can be found
in the addendum to the Annual Report tabled in Parliament.Â
(b)(ii)Â Â The crime figures for the period since 1 April 2012 have not yet
been released by myself and will only be released after they have been
audited. This figure will include arrest made during the Operation
Festive Season.

(c)(i) The figures for police operations conducted during the 2011-12
financial year are also part of the annual report and can be found on
page 65 of this annual report.
(c)(ii) During Operation Duty Calls National Festive Season Crime-
Fighting Campaigns 2012/2013 (15 October 2012 to 31 January 2013) a
total of 1Â 031Â 692 crime prevention and police operations occurred.
