Mr A Watson (DA-MP) to ask the Minister of Police:
Whether regular inspections are carried out at police stations in the
municipal area of (a) Thembisile Hani and (b) JS Moroka Local Municipality
in Mpumalanga; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details in
respect of (i) holding cells, (ii) repairs and maintenance required in the
(aa) short and (bb) long term for each station?

REPLY:
(1)(a) Yes, regular inspections are carried out at police stations in
the Mpumalanga Province by the Provincial Supply Chain
Management and the Accounting Stations.
Short term maintenance, which includes repairs and
renovations are carried out under day to day maintenance
within the specified delegated amount, whilst the long term
maintenance falls under Planned Maintenance and is to be
placed on the Province(s priority list.
(1)(a)(i)(ii)(aa)(bb) The undermentioned stations fall under the precinct
of Thembisile Hani Municipality and the requested
information is as follows:
* Tweefontein
This police station is a leased building with no cells. A
new police station is currently in execution and is
inclusive of new cells. The expected completion date is 24
March 2010.
* Kwaagafontein
The cells at this police station were upgraded in
accordance to required standards (five star specifications)
during the 2000/2001 financial year.
This station is not on the Province(s priority list for
planned maintenance for the next Medium Term Expenditure
Framework cycle (MTEF).
* Kwa Mahlanga
The cells at this police station were upgraded in
accordance to required standards (five star specifications)
during the 2000/2001 financial year.
The station has been prioritised as priority no 8 on the
province planned maintenance list for the 2009/10 financial
year
* Verena
The cells at this police station were upgraded in
accordance to required standards (five star specifications)
during the 2000/2001 financial year.
The roofs were repaired and finalized on 28 August 2009 and
this station is not reflected on the Province(s priority
list for Planned Maintenance for the next MTEF cycle.
(1)(b)(i)(ii)(aa)(bb) The following stations fall under the precinct of JS
Moroka Municipality
and the requested information is as follows:
* Siyabuswa
The cells at this police station were repaired together
with the police, the exhibit camp and the facilities for
the disabled in the 2005/2006 financial year.
This station has been prioritised as priority number 12 on
the Province(s Planned Maintenance list for the 2009/2010
financial year.
* Vaalbank
The cells at this police station were repaired during the
2000/2010 financial year.
This station has been prioritised as priority number 16 on
the Province(s Planned Maintenance list for the 2009/2010
financial year.
* Mamehlake
This police station has no cells and the building is co-
used with the Department of Transport. It needs to be notes
that Mamehlake is not an actual police station and is in
fact a satellite station and falls under Vaalbank police
station
