ADV H C Schmidt (DA) to ask the Minister of Mineral Resources:
(1) What (a) are the reasons for the Cabinetâs decision to suspend the
disposal of State-owned mining assets, (b) is the purpose of the
suspension and (c) entities and/or departments are responsible for the
audit of the mining assets;
(2) whether an investigation into the regulatory environment within the
mining sector pertaining to the suspension of the disposal of mining
assets has been mandated; if not, what is the position in this regard;
if so, what are the relevant details;
(3) what will be the duration of the suspension?

REPLY
(1) (a) and (b) The Cabinet approved suspension of disposal of mining
assets to allow the Minister of Mineral Resources adequate time to
finalise an audit of mining interests held directly or indirectly by
the State.
(c) DMR is Responsible
(2) Yes, through Cabinetâs decision
(3) Cannot indicate the duration but intend to report to cabinet soon
after finalisation of the audit.[pic]
