QUESTION FOR WRITTEN REPLY
113. Mr W F Faber (DA-NC) to ask the Minister of Energy:
(1) Whether there will be another electricity price increase of 30% or
higher in the near future; if so, (a) why and (b) what percentage will
the increase be;
(2) What are the reasons for not allowing private companies to generate
and supply electricity to consumers at a lower cost? CW166E
Reply
1. (a) It is likely that Eskom will apply for additional tariff increases
as they build more power plants, or as they buy more power from
Independent Producers. (b) The extent of the future tariff increase is
unknown at this stage.
2. Private companies are allowed to generate and supply energy into the
grid, in terms of regulations issued in August 2009. [pic]
