Mr J H Steenhuisen (DA) to ask the Minister for Cooperative Governance and
Traditional Affairs:
(a)(i) How many and (ii) which municipalities in each province failed
to pay the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) for services
rendered in the (aa) 2011-12 and (bb) 2012-13 financial years and (b)
in each case, (i) what are the (aa) amounts owed to the AGSA by the
specified municipalities and (bb) reasons for the outstanding payments
and (ii) what steps are being taken to recover the funds owed to the
AGSA?NW3724E
Reply:
a) (i) Ninety five (95) municipalities have failed to pay the
Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA) in the 2011/2012
financial year.
(ii) One hundred and four (104) municipalities have failed to
pay AGSA in the 2012/2013 financial year.
b) (i) The total amount owed by municipalities for the 2011/12
financial year is R 129,460,618.67; and
(ii) R 160,841,722.66 for the 2012/13 financial year.
The names of the specified municipalities and the reasons behind the
non-payment of their debt to AGSA, as well as the steps that are being
taken to recover the funds from the municipalities for services
rendered, are outlined in Annexure A.
