Ms Van Dyk (DA) to ask the Minister of Communication
1) With regard to recent comments made by a certain person (details
furnished) that the decision to move Afrikaans programming from SABC 2
to SABC was based on research, (a) when was this research (i)
undertaken and (ii) completed and (b) who (i) undertook the research
and (ii) compiled the report
2) Will this research/repot be made available to the Portfolio Committee
on Communications; if not, why not; if so, when? NW 787E

Minister of Communications:
I have been advised by the SABC as follows:
1) The decision was based on research from various sources: the first
being regular television audience data from SAARF ( South African
Audience Research Foundation); the 2011 Census which details
population size and dynamics; as well as media and language data from
FutureFact and bespoke research conducted for SABC 3 by Plus94 in
2013.
2) The research data can be made available at the request of the
Portfolio Committee on Communications
