DATE OF REPLY: 8 September 2009
Mr N J van den Berg (DA) to ask the Minister of Communications:
(1) How is the severance package paid to a certain person (Mr Dali Mpofu)
justified in view of the fact that local producers of programmes are
struggling to get paid;
(2) whether there is any action plan in place to ensure that viewers and
listeners regain confidence in the SA Broadcasting Corporation (SABC);
if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details?

REPLY:
I was advised by the SABC as follows:
1) All payments were based on court judgements as well as contractual
obligations he had with the SABC.
2) The SABC developed a Stakeholder Management Plan which is being
implemented. The Plan focuses on brand stability and is aimed at re-
asserting the SABCâs dominance and mandate obligations to its 24
million daily listeners and viewers. The Plan also reassures the
public and the advertising industry about the organisationâs continued
relevance and sustainability.
