Mr D B Feldman (COPE-Gauteng) to ask the Minister of Communications:
1) When will a chief executive officer for the Universal Service Agency
of South Africa be appointed;
2) whether the appointment will be political; if not, what is the
position in this regard; if so, what process will be followed in
making the appointment?

REPLY:
1) On 6 April 2010 the Agency submitted the proposed names of the
candidates in terms of the Electronic Communications Act.
2) The appointment is not political. The process that was followed is as
follows:
⢠The position was advertised in the Sunday Times, City Press and on
USAASAâs Website.
⢠The shortlisted candidates undertook competency assessment tests.
⢠The shortlisted candidates were interviewed.
⢠The Board of Directors was informed of the process that was
followed and agreed with the proposed successful candidate.
⢠A recommendation was submitted to me, as stated in above reply (1).
