Mr R A Lees (DA-KZN) to ask the Minister of Basic Education:
Whether, with reference to her reply to question 7 on 8 July 2010, her
department has received the information it requested from the KwaZulu-
Natal Department of Education; if not, (a) why not and (b) what is the
anticipated date by which this information will be received by her
department; if so, why has this information not been made available to
the public? CW396E
Response:
Information with regard to question 7 is as follows:
a) There are 20 educators with qualifications below Grade 12
i) 3 are permanent as a result of relaxed measures in place at the
time of employment.
ii) 17 are temporary as a result of the challenges KZN face in
attracting qualified teachers to teach in certain geographical
areas.
aa) None of the teachers above are qualified to teach Grade 1 to 6
ab) None of the teachers above are qualified to teach Grade 7-12
b) There are 666 educators with Grade 12 qualification as well as
further education
i) 242 are temporary as a result of the challenges KZN face in
attracting qualified teachers to teach in certain geographical
areas.
ii) 424 are permanent as a result of relaxed measures in place at
the time of employment.
aa) None of the teachers above are qualified to teach Grade 1 to 6
ab) None of the teachers above are qualified to teach Grade 7-12
(c ) There are 8317 educators with Grade 12 qualifications with no
further education
i) 116 are permanent as a result of relaxed measures in place at
the time of employment.
ii) 8201 are temporary as a result of the challenges KZN face in
attracting qualified teachers to teach in certain geographical areas
aa) None of the teachers above are qualified to teach Grade 1 to 6
ab) None of the teachers above are qualified to teach Grade 7-12
