Mr M J R de Villiers (DA-WC) to ask the Minister of Basic Education:
(1) With regard to her departmentâs plan to build, refurbish and
resource new and existing secondary schools, (a) which provinces
were identified for the building of new schools, (b) what will
be the cost of the project in each province, (c) what is the (i)
commencement and (ii) completion date for the projects and (d)
how many learners will be accommodated by each school;
(2) whether these schools will be fully equipped with all the
necessary educational resources needed in accordance with the
norms and standards of her department; if not, why not; if so,
what are the relevant details? CW375E
Reply:
1(a) + (b) +(c) + ( ci) +( cii). Detailed provincial School
Infrastructure Projects lists of each provincial education department
for the current MTEF period have been published in the government
gazette that is available on the DBE website using the link:
http://www.education.gov.za/DocumentsLibrary/Publications/tabid/93/Defa
ult.aspx. The lists, per province, indicate the cost per project as
well as the anticipated commencement and completion date for each
project.
1.d. The number of learners to benefit will depend on the current
learner enrolment at each school.
2. National guidelines for the planning of school infrastructure have not
been finalised yet, Provincial Education Departments are currently
using provincial guidelines to equip schools. However, all new schools
will be provided with the spaces that are critical to facilitate
teaching and learning.
