Mr Mthethwa served as the Minister of Sports, Arts and Culture from May 2019 to March 2023. He served as Minister of Arts and Culture (2014 - 2019). Mr Mthethwa holds a Diploma in Community Development from University of Natal, Certificate in Mining Engineering from University of Johannesburg and a Certificate in Communications and Leadership from Rhodes University. As Member of Parliament, he served as Chairperson of the Minerals and Energy Portfolio Committee from 2004 to 2008 and as Chief Whip of the ANC in 2008. He also served on the Board of Directors for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Local Organisation Committee. Mr Mthethwa has also served as the former Minister of Police.
