Ms Van Zyl comes from the Eastern Cape. In 2010 she joined the Democratic Alliance upon return from the United Kingdom where she worked for 5 years. She is allocated to the New Horizon Constituency, which includes the local municipalities of Senqu and Walter Sisulu.
Ms van Zyl has been appointed as the Shadow Deputy Minister of Basic Education.
