That the House -
1) congratulates Mr Sandile Ngcobo, a young man from a rural area of Kwamafunze in Pietermaritzburg who is studying towards his PhD, for his breakthrough in developing the world's first digital laser;
2) notes that Mr Ngcobo, along with other researchers at the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, has taken laser technology to the highest level globally;
3) further notes that this innovation is regarded as a milestone in laser technology and could spur on future laser-related innovations;
4) further recognises that Mr Ngcobo's breakthrough proves that South Africans can compete amongst the best in the world;
5) acknowledges that this level of innovation by South Africans is further proof that we are on track as a country in world-class research and finding solutions to global challenges; and
6) congratulates young Sandile Ngcobo on his achievement and wishes him well on the completion of his PhD.
