Speaker, democracy is a very important concept, but the ANC has deliberately decided to ignore it. They have decided to tell the people of South Africa that where they lose, they make it ungovernable. However, they must be warned that what they do today might happen to them in the near future. Most importantly, what they are doing to South Africa will affect all of us, not only ANC people. They must learn to accept it when they lose.
The issue of making the Western Cape ungovernable does not start with the ANC Youth League. In 2009 the uMkhonto weSizwe Military Veterans Association announced that they were going to make the Western Cape ungovernable. We thought it was a joke, but today we can see that is what the ANC is doing in the Western Cape. They have practised it in all other provinces where they are governing because almost all service delivery protests are being led by ANC activists themselves. They are just about to make the whole of South Africa ungovernable.
The silence of the ANC leadership when their youth league made the statement is deafening. By implication, that leadership is proof of what their youth league is doing in the Western Cape. They must not complain when what they are sowing here happens in other parts of the country. [Applause.]
