Speaker, the ANC is overjoyed at the outcomes of the Cuban programme, which showed positive results in addressing the shortage of medical skills. This is after nine doctors, who were trained under the South African-Cuban programme and recently graduated at Stellenbosch University, were deployed to various stations in the North West province for an internship period, where they work under the guidance of senior, experienced doctors. The doctor-patient ratio in the North West health facilities has eased since these new doctors joined.
Moreover, there are currently 406 medical students from South Africa undergoing training in Cuba. [Time expired.]
