Madam Chair, I am presenting the report on the processes we followed to fill the vacancies of the Media Development and Diversity Agency, MDDA, which will become vacant when two members of the board leave at the end of December this year.
After having dealt with the matter, calling for nominations and receiving nominations, short-listing candidates and engaging in the interview process, the committee came to the conclusion that we had to recommend two people, as is required.
However, before we deal with that, we would like to express appreciation to Ms Phumelele Nzimande and Dr Tanja Bosch, who have been on the board of the MDDA, for the good work they have done. Since they joined the board of the MDDA, the agency has continued to get an auditing clean bill of health.
We think that they have also improved with regard to the work that is done by the committee in making sure that indeed wherever you go throughout the country - provinces, regions, local municipalities - you will be told that the MDDA is alive with possibilities.
After we had considered everything the committee recommended Mr Phenyo Nonqane and Ms Rene Smith to serve on the MDDA board as per the request to fill these vacancies. I thank you. [Applause.]
Question put: That the recommendation for the appointment of Mr P Nonqane and Ms R A Smith on the Media Development and Diversity Agency board be approved.
Question agreed to.
Mr P Nonqane and Ms R A Smith accordingly recommended for appointment to the Media Development and Diversity Agency board.
