Speaker, it is sad that government allows the ineffective National Youth Development Agency, NYDA, to gloat about its intention to exceed the 42% from its budget allocation it already spends on staff salaries. The same wasteful NYDA, which spends more money on monetary emoluments than on youth programmes, complains about the inadequacy of the R385 million allocated to it for this fiscal year.
The UDM finds it worrisome that the NYDA, whose 42% salary bill is already far above the national norm of 33%, sees nothing wrong with wasting more taxpayers' money on employing more ANC Youth League members in the NYDA. The NYDA has now become nothing more than an employment agency for the ANC Youth League.
It is wrong for government to do nothing, when its youth wastes state resources on ridiculous programmes in the face of grinding poverty and inequality.
The UDM calls on government to provide leadership in this nauseating NYDA circus. Thank you. [Applause.]
