Hon members, on 16 February 2011, during the debate on the state of the nation address, hon M J Ellis raised a point of order objecting to remarks that were made by the hon Minister of Science and Technology when she said:
Now, can you imagine, hon members, if we were to accept the situation where we appointed members of the DA to serve us in government? I'm sure, given the hatred that is spouted forth here, that they certainly have not appointed ANC appointees in the government of the Western Cape that they have referred to.
I indicated at the time that I would look at the Hansard and get back to the House. Having studied the unrevised Hansard, it is clear that the remark by the hon Minister was an expression of how she viewed political discourse in the House. I do not find that unparliamentary. [Applause.]
