Speaker, firstly, I would like to welcome the statement by hon Bheki Radebe, who welcomed the establishment of the National Consumer Commission.
I think it is important to indicate that the ANC is indeed a caring government. We saw the fruition of the implementation of the tenets of the national Consumer Protection Act, an Act that seeks to protect consumers against the vociferous markets supported by the DA.
In the past, the South African consumers were being treated in a manner that suggested that they didn't have to know what they were signing for. The consumer commission received complaints from people who were made to sign what they didn't understand by the businesspeople. Of course, we know who is in the majority in South African business - I don't need to name them. [Interjections.] Then you understand who they are, and thank you very much.
Secondly, I will respond to the statement made by hon Kganare about the Premier of the Free State. An allegation has been made about the premier, by a member of this House. If hon Kganare, for instance, has information relating to any crime committed by any hon member of any government institution, I think it would be honourable for him to approach the Minister of Police or the nearest police station to lay a charge.
However, because we know that it is time for local government elections, it is normal to see political gimmicks in this House. This is not the first statement or the last. [Interjections.] Interestingly enough, the member was able to give us figures and we didn't know where he got them. [Time expired.]
