Mr Speaker, I move without notice: That the House -
1) welcomes with pride the appointment of former Minister of Arts and Culture, Dr Pallo Jordan, as the South African ambassador to the United Nations;
2) recalls that his appointment comes at a time when the African Union Summit endorsed South Africa's candidature for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council;
3) further recalls that the endorsement of his appointment is guided by the commitment to strengthen the multilateral system and support for a broader multilateral approach to questions of international peace and security;
4) believes that the appointment of Dr Pallo Jordan to the position of ambassador is a correct decision, and trusts that he will discharge his responsibilities with humility, dedication and utmost commitment; and
5) wishes Dr Pallo Jordan a successful term in the United Nations.
Agreed to.
