The Week Ahead: Deputy President & DPP Interviews

The major point of interest will be Tuesday’s Question Time session with the Deputy President in the NCOP.

This will be the leader of government business’ penultimate engagement with NCOP delegates before the Sixth Parliament rises

In line with the broad tasks delegated to the Deputy President, he will be probed on various issues, including unemployment, skills shortages, water crises, the transfer of agricultural land, the District Development Model, and the genocide case against Israel.

The NCOP has arranged one additional sitting day – on Wednesday – where it will consider the Report of the Joint Standing Committee on Defence following its engagement with Members of the South African Defence Industry at Rheinmetall Denel Munition and Damen Shipyard as well as the Select Committee on Finance Report on the Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposals

Elsewhere, the NA House has scheduled a busier programme as it will be sitting over three days

On Tuesday, the focus is on legislation (including the Electoral Matters Amendment Bill), a debate to mark International Women’s Day and assorted committee reports.

The following day, select Ministers in the Governance Cluster will respond to oral questions. At the same sitting, lawmakers will consider the Standing Committee on Finance Report on the Fiscal Framework and Revenue Proposals

Beyond this, the second house will consider legislation and assorted reports during Thursday’s sitting.
