Infographic: The state of higher education, 1994 to the present

Recently, the Department of Higher Education and Training briefed the Higher Education Portfolio Committee on its Annual Performance Plan for 2014/15. The report looked at the state of tertiary education with particular focus on the improvement of access to higher education institutions, and the increase in the budget allocation.

In June, the President told the country in his State of the Nation Address that education would continue to be a priority, as it has been over the past twenty years. He said, “We will continue to invest in education and skills development as that is the key to economic growth and development… Education therefore remains an apex priority for this government. We will continue to promote universal access to education… The number of young people at universities and colleges has increased over the years.”
