Infographic: Short supply of funding for tertiary studies hindering access to education says Department

On Tuesday, 21 October 2014, the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET), along with Higher Education South Africa (HESA) and the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS), briefed the Committee on the status of funding for tertiary students in South Africa. The entities explained that NSFAS is in desperate need of more funding or it would have to turn down up to 50% of the applicants. With a quarter of the Higher Education (HE) student population already reliant on NSFAS grants, and with the growing number of students entering Higher Education Institutions, the situation would only get worse.
