Infographic: Women & Persons with Disabilities employment targets

On Wednesday, 12 August 2015, the Department of Public Service and Administration told MPs that departments did not meet the target for employing 50% of women and 2% of persons with disabilities in the public service sector. According to the Department’s records, employment of women at Senior Management Service level was only 40.5% against a target of 50%, and persons with disabilities was only 0.66% against a target of 2%. MPs said that this was unacceptable, with the Public Service and Administration Portfolio Committee later releasing a statement saying this failure within “government departments is holding back transformation and perpetuating injustices of the past as well as undermining years of the struggles of women emancipation”.
