About Deborah Anne Schäfer

Ms Schafer is the MEC for Education in the Western Cape. Ms Schafer was born in Pietermaritzburg and completed her secondary education in Cape Town. She obtained a BA degree in English and Psychology from the University of Cape Town and later completed an LLB degree. She practiced law for a period of twelve years prior to starting her political career. Debbie joined the DP in 1999 and served as a ward councilor. She was first elected to Parliament in 2009 and is currently executing duties as the Shadow Deputy Minister of Justice and Constitutional Development and also serves as the Deputy Chairperson of the Regional Executive in the City of Cape Town, a member of the Provincial Disciplinary Committee and the Registrar of the DA Federal Legal Commission.
