About Benedict Anthony Duke Martins

Mr Martins previously served as the Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises. He was born 2 September 1956. He holds a Master of Law degree in International Law from the University of Cape Town and a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of Natal. He was a member of the Black Consciousness Movement in the 1970s and was imprisoned for eight years on Robben Island and in Johannesburg. He has been a Member of Parliament since 199, and chaired the Portfolio Committees on Home Affairs and Public Works. He is also a member of the Political Bureau and Central Committee of the South African Communist Party (SACP). Source: (info.gov.za)
