About Belinda Bozzoli

Professor Belinda Bozzoli is the author of three single-authored, internationally published books and editor or co-editor of a further four; in addition, she has published 26 articles. In 2006 she was awarded an A-rating from the National Research Foundation, making her the first sociologist to be honoured in this way. In addition to being Acting Director of WISER, she is now also Senior Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor in which capacity she is working on a major research development project for the University. She completed her Bachelor of Arts and Honours degrees at the University of Witwatersrand; she then read for her Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy at the University of Sussex. She was an Associate Fellow at Yale University in 1978 - 1979. source: whoswho.co.za. She became Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Witwatersrand in 2002, and amongst other things chaired the Board of the National Research Foundation for a time. She was elected as a DA MP in May 2014, and is political head of the Boksburg West constituency, an area which includes many informal settlements, Reiger Park, parts of Vosloorus, Freeway Park and other communities. She is now Shadow Minister for Higher Education and Training.
