About Andrew Frans Madella

Mr Madella was born in Cradock in the Eastern Cape but grew up in Elsies River, Cape Town. He was educated in Elsies River, first at Eurecon Primary school and then at Uitzig Senior Secondary school from where he matriculated. He went on to study at UWC where he gained a four-year Diploma in Social Work. He followed that by graduating from the University of Stellenbosch with a BPhil in Values and Policy Studies and Hons BPA. Mr Madella has served two terms in Parliament since 2005. Since his graduation he worked as a social worker and then was elected as a full time trade union official as the Provincial Secretary of NEHAWU in the Western Cape from April 1998 to May 2005 where after he was appointed as the Parliamentary Officer for Nehawu. Three months later he was sworn in as a MP until 2009. After the 2009 elections he worked briefly for the ANC, followed by a stint at the Services Seta. Thereafter he was employed fulltime for six months as Secretary General of Disabled People South Africa. He also enjoyed some time employed as Parliamentary Liaison Officer at PRASA before being elected to Parliament in 2014
