It’s a crunch year in global and local politics. In South Africa, the battle for the African National Congress’ (ANC’s) top position is now being fought openly and will be decided in December. But while the party calls for unity and action, disunity appears to be the order of the day. This undermines government’s ability to deal with poverty, unemployment and inequality.
How will the ANC clean up its act ahead of its elective conference and the country’s 2019 elections? Can the party overcome internal divisions and deal with South Africa’s multiple challenges?
