The Disappeared Are Appearing: The Art of Memory

Members of the media are hereby invited to attend a public dialogue event with Argentinean social justice artist, Professor Claudia Bernardi and Madeleine Fullard; head of the Missing Person’s Task Team at the National Prosecuting Authority of South Africa.

In this presentation, artist Claudia Bernardi, will discuss a communal and collaborative mural project created by relatives of the disappeared who recovered the human remains of their loved ones through the exhumations performed by the Argentine Forensic Team.

Bernardi will be in conversation with Madeleine Fullard who is a historian who worked as a researcher for the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) for several years, including working on its Final Report. She currently heads the Missing Persons Task Team (MPTT) in the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), a government task team made up of investigators and forensic anthropologists. The MPTT is mandated to establish the fate and whereabouts of people who disappeared in political circumstances between 1960 and 1994. To date the MPTT has recovered the remains of 102 individuals.
