Department of Women, Youth & Persons with Disbailities Priorities for 2019/20

On the 9th of July 2019, the Minister in the Presidency for Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities, Ms Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, delivered the 2019 Budget Vote speech which is meant to give the public an indication of what the departments budget for the year is and highlight what the key expenditures will be in that period.

Although the budget vote speech itself makes little mention of how the money in the Department would be spent one of the things that is clear is that the Department’s budget remains the smallest across all departments at R244.398 million.

The main priorities for 2019/20 are: 1. Submitting the Sanitary Dignity Framework (SDF) to the Cabinet for approval. 2. Implementing and monitoring of the Women’s Financial Inclusion Framework. 3. Establishing the National Council on Gender Based Violence. 4. Lastly, to facilitate interventions and economic opportunities for women, and performance monitoring review on women’s empowerment and gender equality.

The portfolio committee on Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities met on the 20th of August 2019 to revise the Annual Performance Plan for 2019/20.

Below we have put together the Department’s budget priorities. You can stay up-to-date with the new developments in the department here.
